Professor Prem Kumar is well known and highly regarded as a speaker and thought leader in the area of strategic management, marketing and international business. His work focuses on the formulation and implementation of corporate strategies, knowledge and innovation management.
He received Master's in Economics from the Panjab University, Chandigarh followed by M.Phil and Ph.D. from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He attended faculty development programs/management development programs conducted by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, IIM-Calcutta, XLRI and Harvard Business School.
He worked as Marketing professional in Jenson Nicholson (I) Ltd and Shaw Wallace and Co.Ltd. He served as Vice President, Corporate Planning at Vardhman Textiles Ltd during 1994-96 while on leave from the University.
He has been a regular member of the faculty at University Business School. Chandigarh, Punjab School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala and Department of Business Management, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in the area of Marketing and Strategic Management. He has been Visiting Professor at Jammu University, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Maharishi Dayanand Universsity, Rohtak and Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. He Chaired the University School of Business Studies, Punjabi University Campus, Talwandi Sabo since its inception in 1988 to 1994, 1996-99 and 2002-04.
At Punjabi University, Kumar played a major role creating a Business School with new thrust areas and pioneered the creation of Off-campus Programmes at MBA and Ph.D. Level.
His industrial experience includes stints as Marketing executive at Jenson and Nicholson(I) Ltd ( A renowned Paint Company) and Shaw Wallace and Col Ltd. He worked as Vice President (Strategic Planning) and later Advisor Strategic Planning with Vardhman Group( 1994 onwards).
Professor Kumar has worked closely with policy making at the University Level, State Government and the Central Government. As Member of CII, he was part of the team that assisted the Government of India in po0licy reforms for the Textile Industry (2000-2004).
Professor Kumar is widely travelled and has made presentations on various aspects of management including Starategic Management, Knowledge and Innovation Management, Manufacturing Excellence etc at various National and International Forums.
